Sofitel’s Largest Hotel in the World Is Coming to Makkah

Accor has signed Sofitel Jabal Omar Makkah, a 1,141-room property that will become the brand’s largest hotel anywhere in the world, extending the group’s presence in one of Saudi Arabia’s most closely watched hospitality markets.

The hotel spans two towers, Sofitel Jabal Omar Makkah North and South, within the wider Jabal Omar master development, and offers direct pedestrian access to the Haram, Islam’s holiest site. Many rooms across both towers offer views of either the Holy Mosque or the surrounding city, and the property is expected to open in late 2026.

The scale of the signing reflects the particular economics of Makkah’s hotel market, where proximity to the Haram supports room counts and price points far beyond what comparable developments could command elsewhere in the Kingdom.

The signing continues Accor’s pattern of pairing its most ambitious individual projects with the Kingdom’s religious tourism cities, a strategy shared by several other major hospitality groups currently expanding room counts in both Makkah and Madinah ahead of the government’s 2030 visitor targets. The dual-tower structure also allows phased completion, a construction approach increasingly common among Makkah’s largest recent hotel projects.
